Pat catches up with you on the way out to the parking lot after school. “Hey! Sorry about what I said at lunch. I’ve been going through some stuff. Shouldn’a taken it out on you.”
“If that’s an apology, I forgive you,” you reply. “You know, Pat, I’ve been thinking a lot about what you said, and it wasn’t all just blather.”
“Really? What do you mean?” Pat asks. You can tell there is genuine curiosity.
“Well, I’m headed to get some caffeine. If you really wanna talk about serious stuff, forget about the Voodoo Rally and chicken heads and whatnot and let’s just have coffee and talk. Meet me there and I’ll lay it out for you.”
As you part ways, you can tell Pat’s interest is piqued, but Pat is still wavering.
